The Queen of Hearts 2012: Annie Virtanen

The Queen of Hearts 2012 was organised on 14 February in Helsinki. At the end of the night, Annie Virtanen from Malawi was crowned the winner. She was also voted the audience favourite.

Annie likes to keep busy - in addition to being a student and a wife, she is also a savvy business woman running her own travel agency. And as if this wasn't enough for one woman to handle, she is also a talented poet who likes to write about things close to her hearts. In the contest, she won over both the audience and the judges with her moving poem on the true worth of a woman.

During her reign, Annie chose to campaign for a cause back in her home country. The Fountain of Life is a non-profit organisation working with victims of rape and raising awareness on the issue of violence against young girls and women in Malawi. Before moving to Finland, Annie volunteered for the project and as The Queen of Hearts, she wants to continue to support the valuable work they are doing to break the silence and shame, helping women heal both physically and emotionally.
